Windsurfing and Kite boarding
We got some nice wind for Kite surfing last week, but it was never really strong enough for good windsurfing. From Saturday on good winds for Kite surfing was just blowing for a couple of hours and on Monday it never got strong enough for nice planning.
Surfing and Body boarding.
The surf was very small the whole week long and at the grump surfing competition it was difficult to find good waves. But than on Sunday a nice swell dropped in at the north coast bringing us nice surf to Encuentro with waves up to 8 ft.

Situation
The tropical depression 7 just developed to tropical storm Gustav and is moving from the south NW wards crossing Haiti and Cuba in the next days bringing us just rain but no big winds nor waves. Together with a 2nd invest in the north this system is disturbing the trade winds totally and it is not sure yet when good winds are coming back. The little swell we got on Sunday will start to drop down tomorrow and the bigger swells from out side will not get to our region next week. The surf will go down and will be small all week long.

Forecast (Tues, Aug 26, 2008)
Wind: between 13-14 KN from SE/E, picking up to 20 KN or more in the afternoon if the weather allows. It will be a fight rain against wind and we hope the 2nd one is winning.
Shore break at Cabarete: 1-3 ft
Swell: 4-5 ft NE/E with 6 sec. wave period
Surf at Encuentro: the surf is going down slowly still pumping nice waves to Encuentro and the whole North coast.

Forecast (Wed, Aug 27, 2008)
Wind: between 4-10 KN from SE-E and with little hope for strengthening today up to 12 KN or more.
Shore break at Cabarete: 1-2 ft
Swell: 3-4 ft E with 9 sec wave period.
Surf at Encuentro: the swells are going down more but the surf could still be good for all levels of surfing.

Forecast (Thurs, Aug 28, 2008)
Wind: between 1-4 KN turning around and with very little hope for strengthening in the afternoon. The chance for rain is bigger than the chance for good wind.
Shore break at Cabarete: 1-2 ft
Swell: 2-3 ft rolling from NE/E with 8 sec. wave period
Surf at Encuentro: Surf is not very big but the waves could drop in better at Encuentro, because the direction is more NE

Forecast (Fri, Aug 29, 2008)
Wind: between 2-4 KN from S turning to E and not much stronger in the afternoon. We just can hope that the global situation in the Atlantic Ocean is changing to get back our good winds to Cabarete.
Shore break at Cabarete: 0-2 ft
Swell: 2-3 ft rolling from NE/E with 7 sec. wave period
Surf at Encuentro: no big changes and the surf will be very small

Forecast (Sat, Aug 30, 2008)
Wind: between 3-7 KN from SE-E and strengthening up to 10 KN in the afternoon are not providing the best for our winds. We need luck to see good conditions for our wind sports.
Shore break at Cabarete: 0-2 ft
Swell: 2-3 ft NE with 7 sec wave period.
Surf at Encuentro: just the direction make us hope that there is any wave at Encuentro in these days. But forecast could also be wrong, because there is a huge storm in the north and big swells are not so far.

Outlook for Sunday and Monday
The expectations are not very high for the next days but there is still hope that the situation is changing totally and the trade winds get a chance to develop again. If we believe the forecasts, a new storm is just building up in the east with big chances to get a bigger hurricane infecting our weather the next week. The swells are still not supposed to build up, but we have to keep an eye on this new storm and bigger swells are coming closer.

Windsurfing and Kite boarding
After good wind and perfect conditions for our wind sports last week the tropical storm Fay was passing our island at Saturday night and was blocking our wind system for 2 days from Friday through Saturday and brought us a lot of rain on Saturday and the whole night to Sunday. On Sunday it cleared up already and the winds were starting slowly and not very powerful. Monday was better, but still the power is just enough for Kite surfing and windsurfing with big equipment.
Surfing and Body boarding.
The surfers instead were very happy with the storm, because after weeks with small waves or Flat Ocean we saw some nice surf at the north coast with waves up to 8 ft at Encuentro on the weekend.

Situation
The trade winds are still disturbed by tropical storm Fay and an other tropical wave coming from East and the global situation in the northern Atlantic. We get wind from East every day, but it looks like that there is missing good power to force our sails and Kites. We need good thermal help to get planning and enjoyable conditions this week. Rain is forecasted just a little on Wednesday afternoon. The surf too is not that big anymore and the swells are rolling from East which will not promise a lot of power for our spots.

Forecast (Tues, Aug 19, 2008)
Wind: between 6-9 KN from SE/E, picking up to 8-12KN or more in the afternoon. We need more thermal help to get strong wind.
Shore break at Cabarete: 1-2 ft
Swell: 3-4 ft E with 8-9 sec. wave period
Surf at Encuentro: the surf is not that big anymore, but still good for beginners or long boarding and possible for some short board action in the early morning.

Forecast (Wed, Aug 20, 2008)
Wind: between 6-9 KN from E and stronger with thermal help in the afternoon. 12-16 KN or more are possible.
Shore break at Cabarete: 1-2 ft
Swell: 3-4 ft E with 8 sec wave period.
Surf at Encuentro: the surf is not changing a lot and conditions are decent for all levels of surfing.

Forecast (Thurs, Aug 21, 2008)
Wind: between 7-9 KN from E with strengthening in the afternoon to 12 KN or more.
Shore break at Cabarete: 1-2 ft
Swell: 2-4 ft rolling from NE/E with 8-5 sec. wave period
Surf at Encuentro: Surf is not very big but the waves could drop in better at Encuentro, because the direction is changing more to NE

Forecast (Fri, Aug 22, 2008)
Wind: between 4-8 KN from E and may be up to 12-16 KN in the afternoon. On one side we have a forecast with very slow wind on the other side we get predicted stronger winds in the afternoon. Let see what this real means for our winds.
Shore break at Cabarete: 1-2 ft
Swell: 3-4 ft rolling from NE/E with 5-6 sec. wave period
Surf at Encuentro: no big changes and the surf could be good for all levels of surfing

Forecast (Sat, Aug 23, 2008)
Wind: between 5-9 KN from E and strengthening up to 12 KN in the afternoon. We need luck to see good conditions for our wind sports.
Shore break at Cabarete: 1-2 ft
Swell: 3-5 ft E with 6-9 sec wave period.
Surf at Encuentro: slightly better surf, not much power, but should be good for all levels of surfing

Outlook for Sunday and Monday
The trade winds are still not working well but we hope that with thermal help we can see some stronger winds. Also the situation could change radically if an other tropical storm showing up. The swells are supposed to keep on rolling from East in the 3-5 ft range which could bring us small surf for all levels of surfing.
