The No Work Team Surf-shop Cabarete is providing the Wind & Wave report since 9 years and offers the full service of surf school since 10 years and our Kite school at Bozo Beach since 3 years. With the beginning of July we moved the surf school “Encuentro Surf action” from Coco Pipe directly to the main spot in front of Encuentro’s right break and we are working now together with the surf school Buena Onda and Ali’s surf camp . Here we can provide you still the same good service for the lessons and even a bigger pool for rental. You can find all type and sizes of boards for all conditions and levels. Our Kite school “Big Air” moved back to the old base right beside Hotel Viva and for info and reservation you can check at the No Work Team shop and at the Fanatic Center and Café Pitù.

Windsurfing and Kite boarding
Unfortunately our good wind system got disturbed and the trade winds could not bring us strong winds anymore to our region last week. We got just 2 days with decent winds around 15 KN on Friday through Saturday, but all the other days the wind was not strong enough for real windsurfing or good Kite boarding.

The waves were mostly small, but the surf was clean and glassy, because the lack of wind. Best days were last Monday and Friday with waves around 5 ft and this Monday with small waves, but glassy conditions the whole day long.

Situation
The trade winds are pushed to the south and not working in our region. The wind forecast is very bad for the entire week and just from Friday or Saturday on there is a little chance for improvement. Waves will be in the 3-5 ft range the whole week and the surf should be nice and glassy most of the days. From Thursday on the swells are turning to NE direction and the surf gets more powerful and size.

Windsurfing and Kite boarding
It’s incredible. Since the beginning of March we got 71 days of wind over 12 KN from East and this month we got already 9 days over 20 KN wind. This is the best winter since I am here (11 years) and guys who know Cabarete longer say, that this is one of the best winter ever, but that this was more common in the early 90’s.
Surfing and Body boarding.
The waves were smaller at the beginning of the week, but the surf was really clean and glassy in the mornings. During the weekend the surf was growing, but was blown out very fast. We got waves around 6 ft from Friday on.

Situation
The trade winds are working perfect, but they don’t reach here anymore for a couple of days, because they get blocked by a system coming down from Florida, which could disturb our winds for a while. But lately next weekend the good winds are coming back. The surf is going down too very radically and starts growing again on Friday bringing some decent waves around 5 ft for the weekend. Nothing big, but easy surfing for all levels of surfing.

Forecast (Tuesday, April 15, 2008)
Wind: winds between 4 to 6 KN turning around from SW to NE and strengthening are not very possible.
Shore break at Cabarete: 1-2 ft
Swell: 4-2 ft rolling from NE-E with 11-7 sec. wave period
Surf at Encuentro: the surf could still be good in the morning, but is going down radically later. Clean and glassy the whole day long.

Forecast (Wednesday, April 16, 2008)
Wind: Wind between 2 to 7 KN turning from SW over W to N. No thermal help and no stronger gusts today. May be some lighter winds from North in the afternoon. Rain is very possible.
Shore break at Cabarete: 0-2 ft
Swell: 3-2 ft E with 7 sec wave period.
Surf at Encuentro: The surf will be clean but very small or flat It could be very nice and easy for beginners if the weather is not too bad.

Forecast (Thursday, April 17, 2008)
Wind: winds between 4-8 KN blowing from NE and we would need luck and good thermal help to see stronger wind than 10 KN later.
Shore break at Cabarete: 1-2 ft
Swell: 3-4 ft coming down from NE with 7-8 sec. wave period
Surf at Encuentro: a new swell is dropping in and the surf starts rising slowly during the day.

Forecast (Friday, April 18, 2008)
Wind: Wind between 8 to 10 KN blowing from E and strengthening up to 16 KN are possible in the afternoon. Wind and weather are improving a lot today.
Shore break at Cabarete: 1-3 ft
Swell: 5 ft N with 9-11 sec wave period.
Surf at Encuentro: nice swells from N is pumping decent waves to the north coast, but the winds are starting blowing again in the afternoon.

Forecast (Saturday, April 19, 2008)
Wind: Winds between 9-12 KN blowing from E and stronger gusts in the afternoon up to 16 KN or more. The trade winds are coming back and we could see nice conditions for windsurfing and kite boarding compared with nice waves at the reef break.
Shore break at Cabarete: 1-3 ft
Swell: 4-5 ft NE with 9 sec. wave period
Surf at Encuentro: The surf could be perfect with clean and glassy waves in the early morning. Easy surfing for all levels of surfing.

Windsurfing and Kite boarding
Like we forecasted Cabarete offered very strong wind for the entire week, but the first days from Tuesday through Thursday with a lot of rain showers and gusty conditions. Tuesday was too much rain and just one hour of wind in between, but already Thursday was good because the rain showers were just in the morning. From Friday on the winds were blowing constantly with 25 to 30 KN the whole day every day performing excellent conditions for windsurfing and Kite boarding compared with a nice swell from N with waves up to 12 ft.
Surfing and Body boarding.
A nice swell came down from north again, but the winds were very strong and blowing day and night so that the surf was quiet blown out the entire week. But surfing was still possible at Encuentro with huge waves up to 12 ft or more. The wind situation got a little bit better from Sunday on and the surf got smaller but more organized.

Situation
For the first time since over 2 month it looks like that the winds could take a little break this week. The trade winds get disturbed by several storms and good winds get pressed more down to the south. If we get some wind it could be more from NE or N direction before the trade winds come back around Friday. The swells are dropping down too before they start rising up again on Friday with a new swell from NE.

Forecast (Tuesday, April 08, 2008)
Wind: winds between 8 to 12 KN blowing from E and strengthening up to 16 KN or more in the afternoon.
Shore break at Cabarete: 1-3 ft
Swell: 4-6 ft rolling from E with 9 sec. wave period
Surf at Encuentro: the surf is not so big anymore, but clean and glassy in the morning

Forecast (Wednesday, April 09, 2008)
Wind: Wind between 6-9 KN SE-E and not getting much stronger than 12 KN in the afternoon.
Shore break at Cabarete: 1-2 ft
Swell: 2-4 ft E with 8 sec wave period.
Surf at Encuentro: The swells are growing down more and the surf could be really small today, but very nice and easy for beginners.

Forecast (Thursday, April 10, 2008)
Wind: winds between 4-9 KN blowing from SE-E and we would need luck and good thermal help to see stronger wind than 12 KN later.
Shore break at Cabarete: 1-3 ft
Swell: 3-5 ft coming down from N with 11 sec. wave period
Surf at Encuentro: a new swell is dropping in and the surf starts rising, but could be messy the first day.

Forecast (Friday, April 11, 2008)
Wind: Wind between 4-9 KN blowing from E or NE and strengthening up to 15 KN from NE are possible in the afternoon.
Shore break at Cabarete: 3-5 ft
Swell: 5-7 ft N with 11 sec wave period.
Surf at Encuentro: the new swells are pumping powerful waves to the north coast, but the surf could be disturbed by onshore winds at Encuentro and most spots at the north coast.

Forecast (Saturday, April 12, 2008)
Wind: Winds between 6-11 KN blowing from E/SE and stronger gusts in the afternoon up to 15 KN or more. The trade winds are coming back and we could see nice conditions for windsurfing and kite boarding compared with nice waves at the reef break.
Shore break at Cabarete: 3-5 ft
Swell: 6-7 ft NE with 12-13 sec. wave period
Surf at Encuentro: The surf could be perfect with clean and powerful waves in the early morning if the winds are not picking up too soon.
